Two broken souls stumble the streets, misfits, clutching to a fragile hope of finding fortune around the corner. The dark corners and harsh flickering neon of New York City await, as Midnight Cowboy - The Musical makes its world premiere at Southwark Theatre in London.

Joe Buck is a young man desperate to escape his dead-end past. Leaving everything behind, to seek wealth and glory in the big city, he meets a man just as lost as he is - Rico 'Ratso' Rizzo. The pair join forces, prepared to do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams, even if it means surrendering a part of themselves. But New York ain’t no dream - it’s a jungle and survival requires sacrifice…

The new musical is based on the novel by James Leo Herlihy which inspired the beloved triple Academy Award-winning 1969 film, starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. Midnight Cowboy captures the gripping tension of dreaming big whilst trying to survive the grind of New York City.

This powerful adaptation has a book by Bryony Lavery (writer of the Tony-nominated play Frozen), which breathes new life into the classic story, exploring the depths of friendship and ambition, and soundtrack by three-time Ivor Novello Award-winning composer Francis “Eg” White, who has written songs for Adele, Florence + The Machine and James Morrison.

Southwark Playhouse has a group booking rate of one free ticket in every 10 booked at the same time, and this discount may be combined with applicable concessions (i.e. student rate) where available. These can be booked by contacting the box office either by phoning us at 020 7407 0234, or filling in the below form.

Tickets may be reserved for two weeks without payment, and we can send an invoice which can be settled via a card payment, bank transfer, or cheque.

Once an enquiry form has been submitted the box office team will be in touch to confirm and invoice within 1-2 working days. If you have any questions please contact [email protected].

There is ground level access to the mezzanine bar and box office, and lift access to the basement level of the main auditorium.
For most productions, row A is at the same level as the playing space, and each row behind it is one additional step up
There are two wheelchair spaces available in the front row, which are bookable online. If you cannot see a vacant wheelchair space on the seating plan for your preferred performance, please contact the box office.
If you will be transferring out of your wheelchair into a theatre seat then we advise booking a seat in the front row at either standard or concession rate. Our front of house staff will take care of your wheelchair in the bar area.
Assistance dogs are welcome in the theatres. We recommend booking or requesting an aisle seat, or alternatively our staff are happy to dog-sit for you.
